Ms. Monica Llanes – South Hialeah Elementary
I am honored to be selected as the Teacher of the Week! Since graduating from Florida International University in 2006, I have had the amazing opportunity to teach at MDCPS. I have been privileged to teach at South Hialeah Elementary for the past 17 years, the school with a heart. As a mother of two boys, I try to establish a welcoming and thriving environment, as I know I would want that for my own kids.
My high expectations in Math show the growth I see in my students every year. I have worked with students of diverse abilities and across different grade levels. The best feeling as an educator is having my students come back and thank me for teaching them or having them share that I have made a positive difference in their lives. I am forever grateful to my colleagues and administrators who inspire me and support me every single day.

A winner will be selected each week by the College Football Playoff Foundation based on nominations received. Winners will receive a $1,000 DonorsChoose gift card to use for classroom projects. Please note that only current M-DCPS teachers in good standing are eligible to win. To nominate a Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ teacher, you and the teacher you are nominating must BOTH be signed up on the Miami Loves Teachers website (see the home page sign-up) and have submitted the nomination form below.
